I am very pleased with the itinerary and arrangements (2nd attachment). We have an excellent tour company that we have used before. We substituted Caen, Mont St. Michael, Chartres and the D-Day invasion beaches for the Riviera for a number of reasons. These are more diverse destinations, the travel will be much less strenuous and expensive and, by chance, several friends have taken this leg recently and highly recommend it. The two travel days are very easy travel days with significant sightseeing. Our tour price has come in slightly higher than I had anticipated. This is due to fuel surcharges the airlines can impose at any time. Also, because we were quoted before the following possible complication, the tour company has confidence they can eliminate it. However, the airlines, who used to give you the shoulder season price for your entire trip if you departed during the season (as we do), are now trying to average the two prices if you return during high season (as we will). This averaging could result in an increase of $180 above the stated prices for which we should be prepared. We will advise you as soon as the tour company has this cleared up. I do not recommend the travel insurance except in special cases. The prices remain incredible. I really worked the tour company down. Having taken four of us to Europe last March, I can tell you that you'll never be able to go to Europe independently unless you are willing to pay almost twice as much as we will. The dollar has dropped incredibly against foreign currency due to our national deficits. Deposits are due now. We have 31 singers going for sure plus a considerable entourage and a number of uncertain. As the maximum number of singers for the competition is 40, we are right where we need to be. I expect we will have 9 more singers. Two sections are slightly heavy right now, but otherwise the balance is very good. The minimum desired number of 62 travelers is also the maximum unless we add significant numbers above the 62. I think we are right where we need to be right now with room for some beyond those already committed. However, because of these concerns, I reserve the right on final approval for who sings in the competition (any number can sing in the concerts) and who travels. This will be influenced by how soon you get your deposits in. So please print out all documents and get your applications going. 'Nuff said. I am so excited to be sharing this experience with you.
